R9 5950X isn't booting on the ASRock X570 Taichi. Possible damage or another problem?
Hello everyone, here’s what I’ve noticed about my build: motherboard model ASRock X570 Taichi BIOS v5.60, GPU Sapphire RX580, 8GB RAM split into two 32GB DDR4 sticks at 3200MHz, PSU is besilent, dark rock 800W, gold SSD from ADATA XPG SX8200 2TB NVMe Gen3. The BIOS settings reset to defaults after clearing CMOS.
I swapped from a Ryzen 7 2700X to a new Ryzen 9 5950X purchased in a sealed container, unused. It worked perfectly before, passed memory tests at 2933MHz, now runs smoothly at the default 2666MHz. When I switch to the R9 5950X, the system won’t boot. Debug logs show code A6 then stuck at 0d for 30 seconds, then it loops and restarts. Trying with just one RAM stick didn’t help. It seems the new BIOS might not be compatible with this CPU. Could there be an issue with the processor? Thanks for your help!
Thank you for your feedback and idea. I didn’t rely on CPU-Z; instead, the UEFI settings showed BIOS version 5.60 after updating with the previous pinnacle Ridge CPU. What surprised me was that the BIOS update done via the UEFI flashback tool differs from using the physical BIOS flashback button on the I/O panel. It’s quite unexpected and not what I expected. Once I switched to the BIOS flashback button, the issue vanished and the system is now running smoothly.
