R6 and Tarkov frequently crashing? Check stability settings, update drivers, and ensure proper resource management.
I own my PC for approximately four years now, and recently upgraded to an I7 9700 with an 1660ti. My PSU is 750w, which I purchased after several power surges; it seems to have resolved the issue. However, when playing games like Tarkov or R6, the crashes continue even at medium to low settings. I experienced two blue screens after installing a new PSU—first a Kernel Security Check Failure, then a Memory Management stop code. A RAM test showed no problems, leaving me uncertain about the root cause. My system has 2x8GB DDR4 at 3200 CL16; I might need more RAM but am unsure how much. I managed to play R6 for at least an hour before it crashed, suggesting performance is still adequate, though not ideal. It appears the problem could stem from insufficient power delivery or thermal issues, but I’m hesitant to replace the CPU without a free solution. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Over the past four years you've used the machine smoothly with no issues, but when was the last time you changed the CPU thermal paste? Regarding maintenance, thoroughly clean the device by removing all detachable parts like the GPU and RAM, then blow out the air using compressed air. Use a soft brush to dislodge debris while ensuring you reach inside the RAM slots and card slots. After cleaning well and replacing the thermal paste, reassemble the machine and test its performance. I believe your concerns were due to overheating; this cleaning should help resolve it. Good luck!
Thank you for your support. I attempted the fix but temperatures were still near 60°C during playtime, which isn’t ideal. My PC needs a fresh start anyway. I changed the thermal paste on my CPU and cleaned it thoroughly, but problems persist. Your advice is welcome—any further tips would be great.
