This unusual situation occurred. I planned to impress my girlfriend with an upgrade from her R5 1600 non-af to a R5 3600 before she arrives, but faced an odd problem. After swapping the CPU, power-up isn't working properly—lights don’t illuminate when the PSU is connected, and it takes a moment for the RAM LEDs to activate, which is normal. However, pressing the power button gives nothing; the fans remain off. I understand AMD builds can take time to detect a new CPU, but the fans won’t start. The BIOS version is F51, which should support F40 on Gigabyte B450 boards for 3000 CPUs. I double-checked the pins and everything looks clean. The triangle is correctly positioned. I tried clearing CMOS after reinstalling the 1600, and it worked fine.

After hitting enter, I realized her motherboard features LEDs for diagnostics. The GPU often masks these lights, so I’d need to inspect them. She should likely arrive soon, so we’ll have to hold off until then. If anyone has another suggestion, feel free to share!

The B450 requires updating the BIOS to support a newer CPU, and many are available now—even those without Ryzen 3000 models.

I considered starting with the BIOS, you did that. Then I thought about using a CMOS reset, I tried that too. I’m running low on ideas, so I’d appreciate any suggestions from others.

It seems he acted as described in his update. I almost overlooked it and repeated the same point.

No changes were made between F40 and F51. The process for updating to F51 appears more complex than just updating to F40.

The board included F51 by default, but I made sure to use the chipset driver linked during installation.

For the majority of boards, that's the case.

You provided enough time for the system to identify the CPU and memory. The 5800X required several minutes of fan activity before stabilizing. After recognition, the fans slowed down.
