The article mentions reliable internet access with speeds near 20 Mbps. However, latency remains high at around 100 ms. When online gaming is involved, speeds drop significantly—sometimes below 1 Mbps with ping around 30 ms. This inconsistency is frustrating, especially during gameplay. Regarding the posting question, it might not be the best first time to share this issue. The ISP listed is AT&T, but that doesn’t necessarily indicate relevance.

It's a question about the nature of the service. Could you provide more details?

Internet speed doesn't control latency. Latency refers to the delay between your request and the server's response, with each connection step adding to it. Knowing you use AT&T and their 20Mbps plan suggests you're on DSL, which can introduce various elements that raise latency.

The structure is just two houses away from my apartment. Haha. Alright, I’m keeping up now. Appreciate the details—I’ll look into ways to reduce its height.

Being close isn't always the fastest route to the aggregator. Issues like poor cabling, damage, interference, or congestion can all affect latency. Wireless links to the router also tend to add significant delay.

When using wireless tech, everything gets complicated, particularly on the 2.4 GHz band. Traffic is really high and congestion is a big issue.

I thought the signal was going to a distant location beyond the clouds, since the building was nearby. My devices are all wired rather than wireless, and I’m wondering if the old Ethernet cables might be causing delays.

Yes, I crafted my own cables.

Check your connection speed using a service like speedtest.net. If your ping is under 10ms, your game performance should be smooth since servers are likely stable. Otherwise, consider upgrading to fiber optics or replacing cables for better results.
