For those experiencing issues with Fallout 76's crashing when clicking Play in the main menu, quickly switch tabs after clicking play. Pause for a moment until game sounds start, then return to the previous tab. This method works consistently and is significantly quicker than other solutions people have tried.
And the reason for doing this in an AAA game is completely unclear to me.
