QuestionnVidia 30% fan demand
QuestionnVidia 30% fan demand
It seems the nVidia fans really push to run at 30% even when I try various tools like the nVidia App, MSI Center, FanControl v226, or MSI AfterBurner. It’s strange how MSI AfterBurner resets everything to 30% when the slider hits 50%. With FanControl v226, I’m trying to set a fan curve around 50% at high temperatures, but it keeps oscillating between 30% and 50%. MSI Center has some smart AI features, yet I can’t get the fans to stay at 50%. I’ve undervolted with MSI Afterburner to 70% to cut power use (max 560W), but performance isn’t affected—AI seems more focused on RAM and CUDA. My RTX 5090 Ventus runs at a max memory temperature of 78°C and GPU temp of 70°C. The fans adjust themselves between 30% and 34% in my well-ventilated case to keep things under control.
I’m currently using ComfyUI with an AI that heavily loads the GPU but leaves the CPU idle. This might be a long run, so I want to reduce stress on the memory temp for better card lifespan.
I have three questions:
1. Am I fixating on temperatures where 78°C in memory is normal and should I just let it handle itself?
2. Why are nVidia GPU fans so stubborn about their settings?
3. Do you have any experience in setting GPU fans to a consistent desired RPM?
Thanks for reading, hope this isn’t a TLDR.
I own an MSI RTX 5090 Ventus. What driver version do you have installed for your system? It's worth checking if your motherboard requires a BIOS update. You might find this helpful: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/for...w/2986383/
