Was testing an egpu and the psu connected to it encountered a problem, causing the magic smoke to escape.
The nucbox shut down during the incident and won’t restart. The power indicator flashed three times before everything stopped. It’s only a little over a month old, and I purchased it via Amazon, which allowed me to return it, though the return process is slow. Consequently, I opted for a replacement unit.
I ordered an Acemagician f3a with a Ryzen 9 ai x370cpu and a 980m igpu. It arrived on S-I-L for Father’s Day, but the price was under 800 after tax. I’m aware of the malware controversy from last year, but they reportedly fixed it.
I believe they’re still working on it, especially since everyone is watching. I expect updates soon. First, I’ll check for any endidive and redline trojans to ensure safety. Looking forward to seeing how the 980m performs in games!
The 780m model paired with a Ryzen 7 8845hs was powerful, delivering 100fps in Cyberpunk 2077 and Oblivion Remastered. I also had 86GB of RAM with 16GB reserved for graphics. I kept the existing RAM to accommodate the new unit. The F3A uses DDR5 instead of LLDDR5, which caused a minor performance drop according to benchmarks, though in real-world use most people wouldn’t notice such a difference between 5600MHz and 7000MHz RAM.
