Consider selling the 6950 on eBay and checking the results. Even if it works, there could be someone open to swapping pads and thermal paste for a functional card.

They can try it again, I did that initially too—it made a difference, though it stopped at 94. That chip is really hot, and it’s definitely not among the top binned ones.

I don't think it will surpass the 7900xtx in raster performance, but if it comes close and performs better in RT, it could be a solid alternative.
Also, I noticed the 7900xtx is now two years old and it's time for an upgrade before its price drops even more.
I’m hoping the 32gb 9070xt isn’t a myth; otherwise I’ll definitely go for the next-gen Nvidia cards!
If I’m not convinced, I’ll stick with my 7900xtx until the next generation cards and Nvidia products arrive — which I was really expecting to buy.
So sorry, Nvidia, I’ve been supporting AMD for eight years now and was prepared to switch, but you messed up that decision!

I don't understand, honestly. The 9070 behaves similarly to the 5070, even worse in RT and again after enabling RT, DLSS/FSR and frame generation. Despite this, some still consider it a good value while others think the 5070 is a waste of money. The XT is about as good as the 70ti for less cost, but once you activate its features, AMD performance and image quality drop significantly compared to a cheaper 5070.

MSRP versus actual price is still uncertain. In straightforward terms, the 9070 XT outperforms the 5070 in many titles and even surpasses the 5070 Ti in certain cases. While RT advancements are notable, NVIDIA maintains its lead here.
In summary, securing the 9070 XT at its MSRP offers a strong card with a substantial 16GB VRAM capacity. The 12GB version of the 5070 has been demonstrated to fall short in modern games.

You missed half of my message. When you enable DLSS/FSR, why wouldn’t you? The AMD cards struggle then frame generation kicks in and they fall even more behind. You’re not purchasing these cards for older titles; you’re playing them to enjoy newer games where ray tracing is essential. At 600 you hit the peak performance with all the upgrades. The XT should have been 550 and the base around 400. They simply don’t offer enough power to match Nvidia’s software advantages. Everyone wants AMD to succeed, but instead of a competitive price like a 470/480 deal that undercuts Nvidia, they’re copying the same approach as with the 5700XT—launching a 2060 at high prices and failing. This time they’re releasing a 5070 at even higher prices.

I still enjoy my 7900xtx, but this card would look great with my white Lian Li case.

I arrived at my local Micro Center in New Jersey about 20 minutes before opening, and the queue was packed around the building. There were 150 people ahead of me, yet I managed to grab the Gigabyte 9070 XT for $599.99. They had over 300 units in stock, with at least half being the MSRP models. AT MSRP PRICE! It's crazy how brick-and-mortar stores still matter for this GPU release!
