Question4070 super running at 60%
Question4070 super running at 60%
Hey guys, I'm trying to boost my GPU usage to the optimal level. I have a 4070 Super and a 5800x3D in Rainbow Six Siege. Right now, at around 60% resolution, I'm getting below 280 FPS with my GPU at 40% CPU usage and 1440p. When I lower the resolution to 1080p, my FPS stays the same and the GPU usage drops to about 45%.
This essentially describes a CPU bottleneck situation. A 40% CPU usage usually means the main game thread is using all its cores and can't get any more frames, which reduces the load on the GPU. Make sure your system memory is operating in dual channel mode at speeds of 3200 or 3600, that's the main other consideration. You can also try boosting the graphics settings if you're okay with a slight performance drop.
My RAM is 3200 dual channel. As a strong player, I'm aiming to achieve the highest possible FPS without much concern for graphics settings. Also, if it's a CPU bottleneck, how are others managing to get much higher average FPS with the same hardware?
When you reduce the resolution, your GPU load decreases and you maintain the same FPS, indicating a CPU limitation. Provide more information about your hardware. Share details such as the motherboard, CPU cooler, PSU brand and model, RAM specifications and timing, and your monitor. Also, mention the CPU temperature during gameplay; if it's elevated, the CPU may reduce performance. Ask about the maximum refresh rate of your monitor and confirm whether any FPS limiter is active (Nvidia control panel, rivatuner, in-game settings).
Did you verify their configurations precisely, not merely the default settings?
From that video, it seems your CPU utilization is comparable. Memory performance and size might be influencing the results and aren't visible here. At the reduced resolution, they're operating in the low 50s. Are there other processes on your system that could be contributing extra CPU load?
What is the power consumption and temperature of your GPU?
4070 Super is operating at 65°C under full load. It could be running on an open bench in a well-ventilated space. The BIOS indicates it's using the standard MSI Ventus 2x model.
