The graphics are experiencing several problems. Shadows appear distorted, jagged, and spiky, often affecting smaller objects but also large ones. Reducing ray-tracing helps somewhat. Lighting issues are common, causing glitches. Graininess is more apparent in darker zones, especially around grass or step edges, giving the impression of a screen mask. When moving the camera, the graininess follows the object, yet its pattern remains fixed to its position. The problem was first observed in Elden Ring and can also appear in Sekiro and Monster Hunter World. My PC was built with new components at the start of January 2025. Initially, graphics worked well. I faced booting and stability problems after overclocking Corsair Vengeance RAM on an AMD system, so I switched to AMD memory on January 18th. The issue continued, so I stopped overclocking. I first noticed the problem around February 14th with lightning effects and graininess the day before. Lighting might have been the cause since I was in a shaded map area. It's possible the Nvidia update a few weeks ago triggered it.

I tried various troubleshooting steps: rebooting, reinstalling drivers, reverting to older drivers, resetting Windows 11, clearing CMOS, adjusting BIOS settings, switching to an older graphics card, connecting to other monitors via HDMI instead of DisplayPort, swapping RAM, and even using the old graphics card. The ASUS TUF Gaming 4070 Super OC 12GB graphics card paired with a Ryzen 7 7700x processor on an ASUS B650-E TUF Gaming WiFi motherboard runs a fully modular 850W power supply (80 Plus Gold, ultra quiet). RAM is G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB Series DDR5 32GB. The monitor is an ACERAC 27" IPS XV272U model with HDMI 2.0. BIOS is at the latest version, and I've made several minor adjustments.

I also tested using the old graphics card, which reduced the graininess noticeably.

It seems like the environment manages lighting control. Check all your configurations and switch them to Low, Medium, etc., to try and fix the issue.

I've mostly tested changing every option in the NVIDIA app and control panel, but it seems there might be something I overlooked. Just tried going through it again now and still got the same result. I've adjusted image quality, Anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing settings, DSR, frame rate, shader cache, vertical sync, G sync, texture filtering, triple buffering, power management, resolution, and more.

If the problem continues with the previous GPU, consider using a different monitor and/or cable to connect the PC to it, just to eliminate that possibility.

I've handled this prior. Nevertheless, I attempted once more and achieved the same outcome.

As I've talked about the graininess being reduced after switching GPUs, perhaps a minor adjustment is within normal range and not an extreme issue with my 4070s. I'm still unsure what's actually happening. I hope someone shares more insights. I've searched online but haven't found anyone else facing the same problems. I notice some YouTube videos show similar glitches, though my experience seems much more severe.

Are you considering using another PC or a friend's to test the 4070? Just to eliminate the possibility of a bad GPU. The other thought is a problem with the PSU, though that seems unlikely.

I understand, but that's something I'd like to be able to do, even though it's not possible right now.

I have an old prebuilt, but it doesn’t fit for the card. I should have mentioned this earlier, but I’m unsure why I didn’t. After trying my old 3060 from my prebuilt, I reinstalled it and played a game. However, I had to wipe the computer because the Wi-Fi drivers were gone and there were no games downloaded at the time. Later, I updated the drivers. When testing a game, I faced the same problems now, but the graininess was slightly better. I don’t think these issues are normal. I searched YouTube for Elden Ring gameplay clips to check if others had similar problems. I couldn’t find anyone with the same graininess or shadow glitches. It’s rare to see such issues, especially since you might notice a moment where shadows flicker on certain steps, but it’s not as severe as what I experience.

Turning on GPU acceleration in Windows 11 appears under display/graphics settings. Also, ensure dlss is disabled or that fsr is enabled for most games by default. Set resolution to native 1440p and enable anti-aliasing at x8. Confirm you're using the appropriate display port or HDMI.
