Hello, I know I’m not very familiar with PC technology, but please give me a chance. My HP 290 G1 SFF Desktop PC often shuts down unexpectedly. It won’t turn on unless the power cord is unplugged and connected to a different port. Once that’s done, it restarts. I checked the manufacturer’s forum for possible solutions, and it seems this problem is fairly typical for these HP desktops, with no lasting fixes available. These unexpected shutdowns started in early November 2023 after eight months of use. They occurred twice in that month and continued throughout December. I initially suspected an issue with the Eaton UPS, but it turned out to be a fault with the PC itself.

I recently stopped using the 290 PC, removed its hard drive, and installed it into a newer HP desktop. Since then, the shutdowns have worsened—often stopping after just one hour of use in a single day. I decided to give it a rest. The next day I applied a driver fix for the missing graphics card, which had been bothering me for months. After that, the shutdowns became even more frequent and severe, rendering the machine almost unusable.

I’ve run some tests in BIOS, but nothing unusual was found. I’m hoping someone can help me resolve this.

It appears the PSU protection mode has activated, and it can be cleared by resetting the power supply.

Would a fresh installation of W11 suffice?

No, Windows isn't related to the PSU. It seems there might be an issue somewhere in the system hardware.
