Decided to launch Oblivion on my PC the other day and was pleased with the minimal FPS upon starting a new game. I installed the game via Steam and ran it without mods, intending only to test its performance. Immediately after beginning a new game, I experienced severe lag while moving the mouse during character creation. Since then, I have attempted numerous fixes including updating drivers, adjusting RAM usage for the game, modifying the ini file, and other adjustments, but I cannot resolve the issue. I desire to play this game on my PC, yet it increasingly appears that I may need to purchase a copy for Xbox. I have been unable to find a solution.

I am running Oblivion GOTY on Steam. My PC specifications are: i7 7700k Kaby Lake, 16 GB RAM, and 1080 GTX. I attempted lowering graphics to the lowest setting and running in Windows XP Service Pack 3, without success. Recently, I also encountered a complete sound issue. I hope you can assist me; otherwise, I will play the game on Xbox—if possible.

Observe Task Manager and Resource Monitor while not gaming. Then, using either tool, observe while gaming. Identify the performance bottleneck.

Capture a screenshot of Task Manager while Oblivion is running to assess whether the game is experiencing bugs, excessive resource consumption, or other issues.

Minimizing Oblivion causes all acquired information to disappear. I observed a significant increase in memory usage immediately preceding the return of normal statistics.
