My PC functioned well for about a month or two, consistently handling games such as League, Warframe, and HSR at over 120 fps on medium to high settings. One day it restarted and still struggled to exceed 5 fps in any of them, making them nearly unplayable at the moment. Offline titles like Dishonored worked perfectly, so I initially suspected an internet or driver problem. However, being close to the network connection and testing speed there confirmed performance was normal. All drivers were up to date, and a fresh NVIDIA driver installation was done just in case. Temperatures for CPU and GPU were within normal ranges, BIOS settings appeared correct, and there was no malware detected. There was ample space on the C drive, and VSync or windowed mode didn’t help the issue. I even applied a Windows update just to rule out an older version issue. Despite knowing my computer is several years old, I’m puzzled by this sudden change and unsure what else to try to resolve it.

I believe I've resolved it (temporarily). I reinstalled the newest Windows update, but when it started, I encountered an error related to nvcontainer.exe and memory issues. No previous occurrences, but someone recommended uninstalling NVIDIA GeForce Experience, installing the beta version, and then reinstalling the latest driver via the beta app. So far everything is working well again. Thanks for your assistance!

For your PC, since I no longer use it daily, I have my old MSI with an i5-7400 processor (my first Windows desktop). I own it as a backup and use it regularly each month. It has both an NVMe and SSD drive, and I upgraded the RAM to 16GB.

Regarding your problem, if you haven't done so already, try using system restore to a point before you encountered this issue. The update might be the cause.

Also, I'm curious about the answer to KingLoki.

From what I understand, it's solely online games. Otherwise, there seems no reason for an offline singleplayer title like Dishonored to work perfectly while an online singleplayer game like HSR runs at 4 frames. All other internet activities are functioning normally, my roommates using the same connection aren't experiencing any problems, and even when I tried HSR on my laptop to check, it worked fine. We haven't switched ISPs or plans recently, so it appears to be an issue with my PC.

I'm planning to consider upgrading to an SSD or 16GB of storage once I finish college and have more time to use it regularly again, as it might not be worth it right now.

I'll attempt a system restore, but I'm unsure exactly when it began.

It might help to check the resource monitor for hints. You could try using a tool like hwinfo to view temperatures and GPU usage. It would be best if you have two monitors, as comparing performance across different games might reveal more insights.
