Question Strange scratching sound from my computer?
I've been noticing this unusual sound from my PC since it was put together. It's really hard to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from because it's quite faint. Have others felt this before? If so, could you tell me what part might be causing it? My guess is it could be related to the GPU or the power supply unit. The PSU already makes a whine when it's idle or turned off, but this one sounds more like a strange disk noise.

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.
Include PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, refurbished, used)?
Disk drive(s): make, model, capacity, how full?

Try to pinpoint the source of the noise.
Being very careful open the case and use a cardboard tube or rolled on sheet of paper to help find the source.
Hold one end of the tube to your ear and "aim" the other end of the tube at various components (i.e., GPU or the PSU) as a means to focus your hearing.
Get someone to help as necessary to prevent the tube from hitting anything.
Knowing the source of the noise is the starting point.

Also be sure that all important data is backed up at least 2 X to locations away from the subject PC. Verify that the data is both recoverable and readable.
