Question Strange problem after 2 pins from 6+2 PCIe connector was removed.
When I was using a vr headset, the pcie connector (2pin of 6+2) seemed to come loose. This obviously stopped the display from working and made my fans run much louder. I made sure it was properly seated because this was a new build only a week old. After replacing the cable with another one, my performance dropped—both GPU and CPU usage increased, along with higher temperatures. I reinstalled the GPU driver, which fixed the temperature problem but not the usage issue. For instance, on Planetside 2 with all settings enabled, I would see around 50% GPU usage at max and 30% CPU when using a second monitor, web tab open, and Discord active. Now I usually get 98% usage most of the time and about 50% GPU usage.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
You forgot to mention the make and model of the PSU. It'd be best if you included images of your build since there's no possible way for the connector to come loose unless it was tugged away from the card or if the connector wasn't seated correctly into the PCIe connector.
I reinstalled gpu driver and the temperature issue has fixed but not the utilisation.
Please elaborate how you did this.
i use the cooler master mwe 850 gold v2 psu, and i thought the problem started with the cable. after checking, the cables were overlapping strangely and there was tension on them, which i ruled out for the new cable. i reinstalled the gpu driver by uninstalling it in device manager, restarting the pc, then reinstalling the driver and restarting again.
