I bought a Dell Inspiron 24 All in one PC with Windows 11 and an AMD Ryzen 3 with built-in graphics for a family member. Recently, the device is showing an unusual issue. When I put it to sleep, the fans would unexpectedly run at a very low speed for a few seconds, and the status LED would light up during this event. This seems to occur roughly every 20 minutes.

I've updated the BIOS and checked the power settings, following advice from various forums, but the problem persists. All drivers are current, and the most recent Windows update was applied. I only added Microsoft Office 2021 and printer drivers. No other software has been installed.

Has anyone else encountered this before? Do you have a solution? Other forum discussions mentioned fans running at full speed, while mine just makes a low hum—like something is activating it. I tried using powercfg lastwake to check for any activity, but no logs were found.

As long as the screen remains off, your problem behaves like typical Windows 11 sleep mode. The sleep mode is named "Modern Standby" and functions with newer hardware. It might seem like it's asleep but it regularly checks for updates, installs them, and can even download emails if the client stays open. If this bothers you, try Shut down or Hibernate instead.

And perhaps the interior temperature rises and the cooling fans activate to regulate it further....
= = = =
Check Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer.
One or both of these tools might be recording associated events.

I conducted a test by powering off the computer for an hour, then placing it in sleep mode immediately afterward to check performance. The fans remained running at low speed until they stopped, which occurred at least ten minutes after entering sleep mode. This happened even after what felt like a full hour of shutdown.

Absolutely
Yes, the computer is functioning properly. This behavior is typical during sleep mode and shouldn't cause any problems. For laptop users, it might reduce battery life and create thermal concerns if stored in a bag. Personally, it doesn't bother me and I appreciate having all my updates applied at night.

I turned off the computer for an hour and then placed it in sleep mode immediately afterward to test. The fans ran at a low speed while it was still, and after about ten minutes of sleep, it stopped.
