Question Samsung QLED TV + RTX 3080 HDMI Black Screen When Game Mode Is Activated or Resolution Is Altered.
Question Samsung QLED TV + RTX 3080 HDMI Black Screen When Game Mode Is Activated or Resolution Is Altered.
Hey there, everyone,
I’m facing some odd problems with my setup and need your guidance.
My configuration:
GPU: Inno3D RTX 3080 (4-fan model, 3x DP + 1x HDMI)
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
Mobo: Gigabyte A320m
Power supply: Cooler Master 750w.
Monitors:
Main: 1080p display via HDMI
Secondary: Old 4:3 VGA screen (1400×1050) linked through DP to a VGA adapter
TV: Samsung 55" QLED 4K (Game Mode active, auto-triggers when PC is connected)
Cables: Standard HDMI for main monitor, long HDMI cable for TV (switched manually during gaming sessions)
What occurs:
1. Generally, connecting a long HDMI to the TV—because of my distance of about 10 meters—shows “Found source: PC, setting up display” with a loading animation, and it functions properly even in Game Mode.
2. Last week, when I attempted this, the screen remained blank during Game Mode. Changing the TV to Normal Mode restored the display.
3. In Normal Mode, the in-game resolution was locked at my old VGA monitor’s maximum of 1400×1050.
4. I set the TV as the sole display in Windows; resolution options opened up to 4K.
5. I selected 2K (1440p), applied changes, and the TV went black again—both displays lost signal, requiring a PC restart to restore video output.
Now, whenever I try a higher resolution on the TV, it either disappears or locks back to the VGA monitor’s setting.
What I’ve tried so far:
- Changed TV Game Mode on/off; it works only in Normal Mode but the resolution is inconsistent.
- Restarted with TV as the only display; resolutions became available again, though changing them causes a black screen.
- Switched back to my main HDMI monitor; everything functions correctly, confirming the GPU is operational.
This is quite unusual. It could be related to my GPU/graphics driver (which I recently updated) or possibly the TV or cable itself.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Mobo: Gigabyte A320m
Gigabyte offers several motherboards with the A320 chipset in a compact form factor. Which one do you own? What BIOS version is installed on your board?
Power supply: Cooler Master 750w.
Coolermaster is the manufacturer, and 750W represents the advertised power output. Could you share the model number and its release date?
What Nvidia driver version are you currently using?
Sorry about that.
