Question Random crashes during gameplay?
Question Random crashes during gameplay?
Hi everyone, here’s what has been happening so far. The games would crash without any critical errors or a pop-up window requiring an OK button. The game would freeze on the same frame, and sometimes the sound would play but the scene wouldn’t change. After that, either the game would crash by itself or I had to press Alt+Tab and open Task Manager to end the game process.
What I’ve tried thus far:
Someone requested my event viewer logs, and after reviewing them, they mentioned an NVIDIA GPU driver issue—suggesting an older driver might help. They also pointed out a possible bad disk block on one of the drives, recommending using CrystaldiskInfo to check.
Actions taken:
- Downloaded DDU
- Restarted in Safe Mode
- Used DDU to remove the GPU driver
- Restarted after following the program’s instructions
- Installed a fresh GPU from the GeForce NVIDIA Experience website and downloaded the latest driver via the app
- Restarted again
- Games still crashed randomly
- Added CrystaldiskInfo for diagnostics
It seems the information is unclear, but I’m not sure what’s going on.
I’ve attached some images:
1. 0% life and bad SSD (Windows installation)
2. Hard disk where most games are stored
3. Another image from the program’s hard disk Sentinel
4. A third picture showing the issue
It looks like the problem is serious, but I’m not sure how to fix it.
I’m reaching out for help so I can keep playing without interruptions.
Edit: The crashes happen randomly—sometimes I can play 2/3 of a match in Overwatch without issues, but the fourth match always crashes. For Elden Ring, I’ve managed to play 2/3 to 4 hours without problems, though loading times are often over 10 minutes or so. Overall, it seems quite unpredictable.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Since i can't see the images(at the time of posting this);
When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.
installed fresh gpu from the web "geforce nvidia experience" and download latest driver from the app
App?
Where did you source the installer for your games?
CPU: intel core i7 7700k
CPU cooler: just a fan on top
Motherboard: gigabyte z270x-gaming-k5
Ram: ddr4 16 gigs x2 sticks
SSD/HDD: ssd = kingstone suv400s37240g / hdd = wdc wd20ezrz-00z5hb0
GPU: gtx 1080ti
PSU: not sure where to buy it, it should last about 3-4 years – it stopped working and I replaced it 1-2 years ago
Chassis: not sure how to source that
OS: windows 11
Monitor: display 1 s24c750 display 2 zowie xl lcd
I updated the main post links for the images every time I tried, but the forums keep marking them as spam
Nvidia GeForce Experience allows downloading the latest GPU drivers from there, directly within the experience
All games are from Steam
Are you verifying if your hard drive nears its maximum storage limit? Additionally, has the graphics card been overclocked, and which software version are you currently running?
Yes, both of them aren't nearly complete. The SSD has around 70 to 80 gigabytes free, while the HDD offers at least 100 gigabytes.
also check if your setup causes the system to freeze in windows.
system isn't running at all
lockup detected? Unlikely, I don't notice it, everything runs smoothly and feels good overall.
