Question Q9650 Overclocking
Question Q9650 Overclocking
I need help trying to make my processor run faster. I'm using a Q9650 from 2020 for basic games, so that's all I can get with what I have since I don't want to spend money on new parts yet. Also, I know almost nothing about overclocking (OC). My specs are: Q9650 running at 1333mhz, dual channel with 8gb of RAM, a GTX 750 Ti OC Edition graphics card, an ASUS motherboard, a stock cooler that uses the power supply's built-in cooling, and a 500-watt PSU plus a 1000-watt hard drive.
I bought a Q9650 and an ASUS P5P43TD, set the clock to 3.76GHz with 8GB of DDR1333 RAM. I might be able to go higher, but running at this speed is stable and doesn't get hot. With these specific boards, the memory quality matters a lot more than the CPU. It took me some time because I'm new to overclocking too. I watched videos that helped me out a lot. This video matches my BIOS settings exactly: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7yO79jw2OA Search YouTube for more: "overclock q9650 asus P5p" for extra tips. Make changes slowly, one thing at a time, or you won't know which adjustment worked. Don't jump in too many things at once. Usually, you have to bump the memory and CPU voltage slightly, but do it carefully or you could damage them. Also, download SpeedFan (https://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php) or another temperature tool so you can keep an eye on your heat levels. Watch out for signs of instability like crashes, freezing programs, random shutdowns, etc. If things get really bad, it won't turn on at all. Good luck!
Do you see a turbo key button on your keyboard? Mine has one, but this program doesn't run well on Windows 10. Can someone tell me how to fix that, or am I stuck downgrading to Windows 7?
