Question: Poor performance with new build?
Question: Poor performance with new build?
Hi everyone,
I just completed assembling my new computer and noticed some performance concerns. The specs are as follows: CPU at 12700k, GPU MSI Gaming X 4080, RAM 32gb 5600 Corsair Dominator, motherboard ROG Maximus Z690 hero, power supply Corsair RM850. Temperatures are normal, but CPU and GPU usage dip around the 50% mark for the GPU and 25% for the CPU during gameplay.
In games like GTA V with ultra settings at 1440p, I’m seeing 70-110 FPS, which is decent but not ideal. Dark Souls 3 is running stuttery despite being a new build. Elden Ring has typical issues everyone has reported since launch. MW2 is stabilizing at 70-120 FPS, though still stuttering. Hunt Showdown hits 90-165 max settings smoothly, which is great, but I was expecting around 165 FPS with a 3070.
I also found a driver problem in Device Manager related to a serial I/O 12C host—no clear solution or detailed info available.
Thanks for your help!
UPDATE: Installed BIOS 2703, updated chipset and audio drivers, re-downloaded DDU drivers, reinstalled, tested memory, passed SSD checks, DISM ran successfully. Dark Souls improved slightly, but the ACPI driver issue remains unresolved in Device Manager.

modify the BIOS settings of the motherboard to investigate potential issues
share the userbenchmark link with your findings, for example: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/28977730
Is the video card connected directly to the motherboard or does a riser cable play a role? When updating the BIOS on the motherboard, it's also important to install all chipset and IO drivers. I usually check the website of the motherboard vendor first for any specific support options.
no riser involed cheers but there is a error with the driver for this:
ACPI\INTC1056\2&DABA3FF&0
most forums say chipset but i have uninstalled and reinstalled the chipsets driver a few times
Update USB audio firmware
BIOS version is 2703? (Intel Management engine will be updated at the same time)

In the chipset section you’ll locate chipset drivers and the following:
Intel Management Engine (currently up to date for BIOS version 2703)
Intel GNA (Audio KI noise reduction)
Intel SIO (likely missing driver for Serial I/O)
Verify Windows integrity
Launch the command prompt as administrator and execute DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

I changed the bios on the 14th to version 2602 but didn't notice a new release. I'll update now.
Updated BIOS to 2703, set chipset and audio drivers, re-applied DDU drivers, reinstalled them, verified memory modules, passed SSD tests, and ran DISM. Made minor adjustments to Dark Souls, added some frames, but ACPI driver remains problematic in Device Manager.
Have you installed the serial io driver yet? Check the provided link for details. Alternatively, consider using the Intel driver updater. Intel® Driver & Support Assistant assists in maintaining your system's updates by identifying available patches. www.intel.com
I installed the driver and executed the driver and support assistant, which indicates I'm current with all drivers. Now I'm just doing this for fun, so it might seem like a silly question—but... can I run without that driver? Also, I've noticed MSI Afterburner is affecting my frame rates.
