Hi, I'm trying to push my younger brother's PC further but it only reaches 2.8 GHz.
Current specs: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 at 2.66 GHz, 8 GB RAM at 800 MHz, Asus P5B-V, RX 550 4 GB, Windows 10, DeepCool cooler, Crossair VS550.
I've changed voltages and settings without success—screen goes black and fan speeds jump wildly.
Trying different frequencies than 2.66 or 2.8 didn't help either.
I'm hoping to hit around 3 GHz or 3.2 GHz overclock, but I don’t want anyone to ask why my old PC still feels so slow.
I’m new to the overclocking community.

2.8 is quite good for that configuration. That's what she mentioned in her writing.

My English isn't very strong, but I'm determined to improve my performance in games.

The CPU might only offer 2.8ghz, but the motherboard could be limiting your performance.

Although the CPU can achieve the desired speed range, the G965 chipset could pose a challenge.
There are limitations with FSB speeds, especially at 333 (x9 for 3.0 GHz or x10 for 3.33 GHz), which might push the board into another stable configuration.
For other components, adjust settings to "auto" or "normal" when possible.
VCore should operate well with the standard setting, possibly a slight adjustment to around 1.36-1.4v.
Up to 1.5v is generally acceptable over time.
The default DDR2 voltage remains at 1.8v.
PCIe operates at 100 MHz (raising it to 101-104 can enhance stability and provide more performance on lower boards).
VTT/FSB termination should be set to 1.4v.
PLL frequency is around 1.2v.
Typical range for the chip is about 1.4-1.5v.

Same issue, black display. Which chipset is best for overclocking a 775 processor with DDR3?

Reduce the DRAM speed to create more space for the processor.
