Question My RX 6800 occasionally fails to start when monitors are connected?
I observed this issue with certain boots where my computer failed to pass the bios screen. Instead of launching windows, the monitors would turn off and display a no-signal message. My fix was to shut down the computer using the power button and restart a few times, which resolved the problem almost every time on the third attempt.
Once, after restarting the monitor, I managed to enter windows, but the computer was still using basic display drivers with a very low resolution. After a minute, it froze completely, forcing me to power it off.
This led me to notice that booting without any monitors connected and then plugging them in later worked fine. Also, after replacing the rx 6800 with a gtx 1080, the issue disappeared.
I used DDU to reinstall GPU drivers and formatted drives during a Windows reinstall, but that didn’t help. I’ve experimented with one and two monitors using display port and HDMI cables without success.
I reset the BIOS to factory settings, but left the CMOS unchanged. I’ve also tried different BIOS firmware versions.
Could this be a software problem or is the hardware the issue?

Once I encountered a situation where the monitors went black and I restarted, I ended up in Windows but with low resolution drivers. After a minute the system froze completely, forcing me to shut it down.
It appears your operating system might be corrupted or the drive is failing. You mentioned reinstalling the OS—have you created a bootable USB installer for that OS to eliminate a possible corrupt installation?
Additionally, switching from the RX 6800 to a GTX 1080 resolved the issue.
It could be that your used GPU is the cause.
I’ve also experimented with different BIOS firmware versions.
Please avoid downgrading BIOS versions, as this risks damaging the board.
You may want to obtain a well-built PSU from a reliable source, ensuring it has more power than your system requires, to verify if the problem is fixed.
