Hi everyone,
A year back I purchased an HP Omen 15 (HP Omen 15-dc1002tx) with Windows 11 installed. The main problem is that occasionally—especially now—it turns black when trying to shut it down, though the keyboard stays on and the fans continue running. This forces me to press the power button repeatedly, which is really annoying (or better yet, let the battery drain).

I've tried several solutions without success:
- Turned off Fast Startup and Hibernation
- Reinstalled Windows
- Disabled the power-saving option for USB controllers in Device Manager
- Changed the power plan to disable power saving on the PCIe Express port
- Deactivated battery devices in Device Manager
- Attempted to let the laptop cool after heavy use (sometimes helped, sometimes didn’t)
- Allowed the machine to enter a partially shut state for 5 hours to observe behavior
- Checked Event Viewer and Reliability Monitor—Windows didn’t shut down properly, but not consistently. I saw a Live Event ID 141 related to nvlddmkm.sys, though it hasn’t occurred in about nine months
- Tried booting from a USB drive with Ubuntu, which did shut down after light use, but results are unclear
- All drivers are up to date and BIOS is functioning fine. I’m unsure if the issue lies with hardware or Windows

Otherwise, the laptop works well and performs adequately. The problem seems to appear only after performing tasks like opening YouTube or playing games, causing the machine to overheat and become noisy. If I attempt to shut it down, it often fails.

My system specs:
- Intel Core I5 8300H
- Nvidia RTX 2060
- 16GB RAM (added an 8GB stick with incorrect frequency, but the issue existed before)

Welcome to the forums, newcomer! Have you left the laptop unattended and checked if the shutdown was delayed? Reinstalling Windows? Where did you obtain the installer for the OS and did you install it offline? All your drivers are current, including the BIOS. What is the BIOS version of your laptop? Attempt to disassemble the laptop, disconnect the internal battery, hold down the power button for 30 seconds, then reconnect the battery and see if the problem continues.

I kept it operational during cooking and cleaning, and it remained unchanged.
I used the 'Reset this PC' feature in Windows.
Bios version/date: AMI F.28, 7/11/2023

Attempted to remove the battery, perform a hardware reset, but it didn't work. It's worth noting that the battery appears slightly swollen (possibly due to overcharging), and after rebooting I encountered a CMOS 502 error from the BIOS.
