Question Multiplier stuck on SLOOOOOOW
Question Multiplier stuck on SLOOOOOOW
Howdey- I'm asking this question here as you guys and gals will know all about CPU clocks and multipliers ......
I have a i7-4790s sitting in a GA-H87N-WIFI mobo in a Streacom FC8 Alpha fanless case. It being sluggish I ran a Sandra Lite benchmark which reported that the CPU was running at minimum speed even when stressed. Checking the details I found that the CPU clock is 100Mhz and the multiplier is 8 - so it is running at 800Mhz instead of 3.2Ghz. This is not good.
My understanding is that the multiplier should change based on CPU load - 32 being its nominal working setting rising to 40 for brief bursts (Turbo Boost)
However, it never changes, even when I stress test it - it stays at x8.
I have checked my Windows Power Settings and BIOS and tweaked anything that looks like it could cause the CPU to be throttled back. I have also reset the BIOS (screwdriver on the jumpers) and loaded defaults. I downloaded the Intel diagnostic and the CPU passed with a rated speed of 3.2GHz, but this is the only app, including the BIOS, that reports anything other than 800Mhz. I also checked the CPU is on the mobo compatibility list and flashed the BIOS to the latest version.
CPU temps look fine at 35 - 38 degrees (Celsius)
How do I go about finding out why the CPU is stuck on slow? Running out of ideas !
