Question Laptop does not boot fully from USB or cannot install Major Win 10 or 11 Upgrade
It's a HP 14-bw021AU laptop that was given to my sister. It's an old machine with little use, and the previous owner performed a factory reset. It currently runs Windows 10 version 1709. When she brought it home, it couldn't connect to her Wi-Fi network. She uses a Netcomm router with WPA2-PSK, and the 2.4 and 5GHz bands are set up separately. The laptop is unable to access either band, though it can connect to her phone hotspot even when set to WPA3 5GHz.
I tried cleaning install Windows 11 using a Ventoy USB stick, but it boots normally to the menu. When I select Win 11 23H2, it prompts "press any key to boot from CD or DVD," which is unusual. It doesn't boot without pressing anything, but no matter what I tried, it wouldn't start.
I also used a different USB drive with only Win 11 23H2 created by Rufus. It displayed an unfamiliar message before loading into Windows as usual.
Upgrading to Windows 10 version 22H2 from within the system failed, showing an error code 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 during the BOOT phase.
Any suggestions on how to proceed with this device? I don't want it to cause problems now!
There are no pending BIOS updates.
It has been installing Win 10 22H2 through Windows updates for about six hours, currently at 92% and not having completed the first restart yet...
It's really frustrating but it's pushing me to fix it.

I installed Windows 11 from USB by removing the SSD and clearing all partitions on another PC. Now I need to check if the Wi-Fi works properly at her place tomorrow. Well, it seems it did install fine, but I've noticed the CPU is stuck at 50% usage at 0.8GHz... AARRRRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!! Some drivers seem to have resolved the issue now, which is great.
