Question just asked about the better option between my desktop and laptop for gaming.
750 watts gold from an old workstation still keeps everything running smoothly, it’s what I need right now.
My computer details are:
Asus rog Strick bf450 older version am4
CPU Ryzen 7 3700x 4250 MHz ultra on Rift game 200+ d3 350 plus wow classic on ultra
CPU temperatures stay at a maximum of 59°C, 2x pump Corsair water coolers (uncertain which model)
GPU temps reach around 48°C under heavy load
DDR4 runs at 2400 MHz with Corsair Dominator overclock from about 2100
Radeon 6600 8G
Asus 1080p 180 MHz 1ms ips monitor
I chose this desktop over a laptop mainly because the CPU stays cool—around 51°C on ultra settings in most games.
Laptop specs: unknown motherboard, but it’s an ASUS TUF Gaming A17
16G DDR5 4800MHz RAM
RTX 4050 GPU
Radeon Graphics CPU
Ryzen 7 700 series
It includes 84 blade arc flow fans and 4 exhaust fans. I’m not sure if increasing fan speed would help cooling.
Performance is decent: about 70% idle when performance mode is on, and 61–65°C during gaming.
This setup is from a 4 to 5-year-old hand-me-down from my brother.

According to the specifications, the laptop seems likely to perform similarly or slightly better, mainly because of the CPU and the slow RAM that limits your GPU in the desktop. WoW is especially demanding on the CPU. Your desktop could be upgraded, and a BIOS update would enable you to move to a 5700x3d processor. Then you could pair it with a 32GB DDR4 3200 CL16 memory setup.
