I recently acquired a Perixx Wireless Mouse and it’s experiencing an issue similar to what some users face. While scrolling, the mouse tends to move in the opposite direction of the wheel rotation, which becomes increasingly annoying over time. Eventually, I found myself dragging the scroll bar instead of using the mouse.

After researching, I believe the problem lies with the sensor becoming dirty or malfunctioning. I attempted to disassemble it, but this particular model doesn’t come apart easily—even though I enjoy taking it apart. I tried blowing compressed air inside and gave it a vigorous spin to see if cleaning would help.

Could there be a fix by purchasing a better-quality mouse? I’m curious whether this issue is common in higher-end models with superior sensors or components. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Before buying, I was considering a vertical mouse for a while, but this one is too small for my hands and isn’t very comfortable, causing wrist discomfort. I’d prefer not to spend over $100, but I’m open to suggestions. The MX models I’ve seen range from $120 to $160, and Evoluent mice are similarly priced.

Thanks.

Also, by the way, does this kind of scrolling behavior involve any kind of inertia or momentum in Windows?

There are various mouse settings that influence how the mouse operates.
For instance, the number of lines scrolled at once when the scroll wheel is turned, along with a speed setting, might be adjustable.
Additionally, it can define what actions the scroll wheel performs: both when rotated and when pressed as a "click".
On my mouse, pressing the scroll wheel displays a unique icon that quickly (and somewhat unpredictably) scrolls the page while the mouse is moved, mimicking an upward and downward cursor movement.
It sometimes seems to exhibit inertia or momentum.
Examine all available mouse configuration options carefully.
Windows, drivers, software, and even certain games support mouse and key reconfigurations.
It’s quite simple to become confused by mixed settings.
