Hello everyone. This is my first time here! I appreciate you taking the time to check this out. The machine is mainly for playing iRacing and is fully equipped with a steering rig, button boxes, etc. I believe it should perform better than it currently does, and I'm curious about potential areas for improvement.
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro - 22H2
Processor: Intel ® Core i9-10980XE @ 3.00GHz
Memory: 64 GB RAM
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090
Cooling: Water Cooled
Storage: 1-1 Terabyte and 1-2 Terabyte drives, both at 80% capacity
I don’t have deep expertise in iracing, but the required specifications aren’t overly demanding. Racing Sims typically rely on the strength of a single master thread. The processor you’re using is at its best for your motherboard, performing well in multithreaded applications but not ideal for games that need single-thread efficiency. Check the cpu-Z benchmark on your 10980XE and aim for a score around 574, indicating solid performance.

The graphics card is quite powerful, so a GPU upgrade shouldn’t be necessary. However, you might want to try reducing your game’s resolution and visual effects to test how the CPU handles the load. Lowering FPS can reveal whether your CPU is the bottleneck.
If you want to see the effect, adjust your system settings in Windows Power Management: set a maximum CPU percentage (e.g., 70%), then run your game. A slight improvement suggests your CPU is the limiting factor.
Disabling hyperthreading could help, though no upgrades are available for your motherboard. If budget allows, consider switching to a Z790-based board with DDR4 support and pairing it with an I9-14900K. For existing systems, ensure your cooling solution is compatible with LGA1700 if you decide to upgrade.
What ram are you using? Exact make and model. Is your ram running in XMP mode. You can check this with CPU-z.
Also, you can check which bios you are running. New bios' may bring bug fixes or performance enhancements for the CPU, and mem compatibility.
There's an element of that going on, in that the CPU can be a limiting factor at 1080p. But beyond that, the CPU is less limited, as the load switches to the GPU.
