Question I made a mistake with Windows 10 - what should I do next?
It began with me attempting to create space on Disk C for downloading AMD software. I transferred ProgramFiles to another disk just in case, but it didn’t work properly. When permission was asked, it was denied. A chaotic situation.
After a restart, I encountered a black screen for some time before returning to the desktop. Right-clicking on Disk C reveals the blue circle but nothing opens. Clicking on the bottom left of the window doesn’t bring up the menu either. Everything feels sluggish when trying to browse files.
I have no backup since I wasn’t prepared for such issues. When I try to delete Program Files in C, the system asks for permission from SYSTEM, but right-clicking to access settings also fails. What should I do next? Thanks in advance.
What's next, everyone?
Perform a System Restore to a stage before the damage was done.
Additional tip: If you require additional space on your C drive, consider expanding the partition, using a bigger storage device, or relocating non-OS files to the larger drive.
I believe System Restore isn't sufficient for these situations.
Consider a repair install.
Create a Windows 10 installation media and proceed with the setup, selecting the upgrade option.
To make space available, you might:
disable hibernation – which deletes hiberfile.sys from the OS drive (based on physical RAM),
shift the virtual memory pagefile.sys to another storage,
transfer user files to a separate drive (such as downloads, movies, music, etc.),
or remove software that's no longer needed.
These alternatives are standard and won't cause issues.
Create your own on a blank 8GB or larger flash drive. Download the MediaCreation tool. The initial section explains how to proceed with this process...
