Sorry guys, I realize you might have already answered this, but I’m still confused. Why did we move from 8GB to 16GB suddenly? I remember my sister’s older gaming setup when DDR3 8GB was the norm. After switching to DDR4, we jumped to 16GB. Can a system with just 8GB RAM still run if someone is really struggling financially? People say 16GB is the minimum, even shop owners, but when your friend says he can’t afford upgrades and still uses an i5 2400, it sounds like he’s in a tough spot.
The situation is complex, but generally, 8GB RAM will suffice for most games. Over time, prices dropped as production increased, and many users upgraded their capacity to stay ahead. This made more people see it as a practical upgrade, especially since running multiple tasks strained older systems. While it might slightly impact multitasking, it usually doesn’t hurt performance much.
If you have the budget, skipping 8GB of RAM isn't advised, though 2x4GB still works but you need to keep track of usage. A 4x2GB system is preferable to nothing at all. I run light tasks on my machine and some current games require 10GB of RAM plus Windows, work, Twitch, and a browser—16GB isn't sufficient, and we're moving toward 32GB.
