Hi everyone! I wanted to quickly explain how I got this PC and why. I’ve always preferred building my own systems, never buying pre-built ones, but for personal reasons I ended up purchasing a ready-made gaming PC. The model I’m talking about is the Omen 40L with a 3080 10GB, an i7 12700F, and 32GB RAM (its model code is 62Y96EA). I started using it yesterday and played finals and palword. The CPU temperatures reached a peak of 97°C, while the average stayed around 87°C. Compared to my older PC (1660 Super, i76700K, 16GB RAM), the temperatures were significantly lower. It seems like this PC uses Intel’s stock cooler, which I’m already looking forward to replacing, though it will take a few weeks. I’m not sure if this is the only issue. What do you think? Any suggestions on what to do next? Should I stop playing right away to avoid potential CPU damage?

If helpful: idle temps are normal, usually between 30-40°C at peak. I play games at medium settings. I also tried limiting the maximum power from Windows 11 to 80%, but CoreTemp still shows around 115-120W.

Thanks in advance!

I also overlooked that GPU temperatures are fine, staying at a maximum of 60c during the game.

no, not at all. the CPU will automatically reduce its performance to stay within the temperature limits it's designed for. this usually means your current cooler isn't sufficient or hasn't been installed correctly with proper thermal paste. you should wait until you get a better cooler, as the newer CPUs are much hotter and require more cooling than your older setup.

Thank you very much for your quick response. I can continue playing my games until I switch my cooler and lower the temperatures. I also don’t think the cooler was installed incorrectly, so I hope HP can fix the PC build correctly!

yes you can continue playing. no worries. it doesn<|pad|>'s think it's just the CPU power causing the high temps, not necessarily HP. some units might have less thermal paste which leads to higher temperatures, but in your case it seems the strong CPU is the main reason. your CPU should reduce its speed and stay below 100°C, which is the maximum it can handle.
