Question high CPU consumption low frame rate on Rust
Question high CPU consumption low frame rate on Rust
a bit unusual, after some adjustments i made to my pc, i've realized rust doesn't really work well. when i open rust, my cpu usage spikes to 100% and my fps stays at a steady 3 fps, which is odd since other games like EFT, R6, ARK, etc., run smoothly. the changes i did included installing a fresh Nvidia driver, turning off unnecessary windows services and security features. my hardware specs are: 3080 graphics, 12GB RAM, 7800x3d display, 32GB of memory. cpu temperatures hover around 80c and gpu temps around 60c in rust settings. if you have any suggestions on why this is happening, please reply.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
My setup includes: 3080 12GB, 7800x3d, 32gb ram.
When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it's important to provide your complete system details. List them clearly as follows:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
Include the age of the PSU, along with its make and model.
The BIOS version for your motherboard at this time.
Recent improvements involved a fresh Nvidia driver install, disabling unnecessary Windows services, and clearing all security software.
It’s recommended to use DDU to remove all GPU drivers (Intel, AMD, Nvidia) in Safe Mode, then install the latest driver manually via an elevated command—right-click the installer and select Run as Administrator.
You may also want to turn off the iGPU in BIOS before proceeding with DDU, as mentioned earlier.
Besides, what other operating systems or applications have you used to stress-test the system?
Thanks for the guidance, I just tried DDU and installed new drivers but the problem persists. All other games are working fine, which is strange. The system details are as follows: CPU at 7800x3d, cooler model Corsair 360mm, motherboard ASUS BIOS version 1807 (UEFI), RAM G.skill Flare 32GB 6000Hz, storage NVMe Samsung SSD 970, GPU EVGA 3080 12GB, power supply cooler master 750W (3 years old), chassis cooler master, OS Windows 11 Pro 64-bit, and monitor ROG XG27AQM.
When other games aren't causing problems and you're seeing full CPU usage, it's likely the specific game or background processes are consuming all resources. Check for mods or external tools interacting with the game first, as no single game currently meets that high CPU demand.
