Question Evil Releases in 2 Minutes to Black Screen with Audio
First time poster - please accept my apologies in advance for any awkward remarks.
My issue: Evil Within 2 starts with a black screen, yet I can still hear all the audio cues (logos, menu). When I press Alt+Enter to switch between windowed and full screen, I notice short flashes of the menu, but they don’t stabilize. I’ve read about this on Steam forums, but no one has shared a dependable solution. A few of us have experienced similar problems with Evil Within 1, but
this individual appears to have resolved it by reinstalling the game (though that didn’t work for me), while
others only had integrated graphics and couldn’t even launch the title.
My system details:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
Laptop - ACER Aspire VX5
Windows 10 64-bit
Intel Core i7 7700HQ @ 2.80GHz
16 GB RAM
Display - built-in, 1920x1080, 32BPP, 60Hz
Game is installed via Steam
The standard note I include:
"I've managed to play more recent titles without problems compared to Evil Within 2."
I’ve tried the following steps:
- Reinstall the game
- Check and verify game files on Steam
- Update GPU drivers
- Ensure the game runs on the correct GPU, not integrated graphics
- Run as administrator
- Use compatibility mode
- Turn off full-screen optimization
- Disabled GeForce Experience, battery boost, overlays
- Changed configuration settings in the game folder (no hidden files visible)
- Disabled GeForce Experience, battery boost, and overlay
This is essentially the limit of my technical comfort zone. I’m not keen on diving into deeper settings (BIOS or similar) just to get the game running. I’m fine without it, but I feel like there might be a simple workaround... The game does run, so it should be playable, correct?
Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide.
Your hardware meets the minimum requirements to play the game, but it doesn’t reach the recommended specifications where performance matters most (GPU). You should adjust settings accordingly. Apart from that, since you mentioned trying compat mode, it’s unclear which operating system you’re using, which could be affecting things depending on enabled features. If you’re on Windows 10, consider turning off the Game Bar. Also, stop any background programs that start automatically to avoid conflicts. It would also help to perform an SFC scan and restore the system image file as recommended.
Thank you for your response, it's appreciated! I'm using Windows 10 64-bit. I've turned off the game bar and disabled other startup applications. The SFC scan didn't find any integrity problems. It's unclear what might be causing this; perhaps I should wait until I upgrade my hardware before playing the game.
