Question Computer suddenly shuts down during stress testing of the GPU in OCCT and Power Stress Test.
So, my PC equipped with an RTX 3080 and a XPG 850 W Gold+ modular PS occasionally shuts down unexpectedly, without any CPU or GPU activity. However, it tends to power off specifically during gameplay. I ran stress tests on the CPU and RAM using OCCT, which all passed. MEMTEST64 also confirmed the RAM was fine. During power stress tests in OCCT, the system would run for roughly 20 minutes before restarting or freezing. When stress testing just the GPU, it used to take about 15 minutes before shutting down or restarting, but now it seems to handle it much faster.
This leads me to suspect a potential issue with the PS itself. Even though GPU tests consistently failed, I noticed the GPU temperature readings were normal during crashes, and the memory voltage remained stable. Additionally, the shutdown power levels weren’t at their maximum during the test. It was higher before. I can share my logs if anyone is interested.
I’m leaning more toward a PS-related problem. Could it be that the PS is generating voltage spikes or something similar, possibly triggered by the GPU? Also, it occasionally restarts even when idle and no load is present. Thoughts?
