Question: Clicking sound (such as hard drive clicking) has an unknown source.
Hi everyone, I've been experiencing this clicking noise lately, and it's been going on for a while now. It's not related to any hard drives since I only have SSDs and NVMe drives installed. The sound appears when the PC starts up or when idle, lasting up to a minute and coming and going. Using Afterburner to manage GPU fans didn't make the noise worse, even when increasing fan speeds. The clicking seems to happen whenever the system is idle. I found a YouTube video that shows a similar sound but sounds more like an HDD reading and writing. I'm unsure if it's coming from the power supply or the GPU, or if my motherboard could be responsible. My system details are: Asus Rog Strix B-550F, 3080ti MSI Ventus 3x, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 32 GB RAM.
I believe I've experienced the clicking sound prior to the present power supply unit.
I believe I located the issue—I installed a fan software controller and the noise ceased each time I stopped the PC cooling fans I added. After removing them, there is no clicking sound now. I'm trying to understand how the fans produced the clicking noises; manually moving it doesn't seem to trigger anything. They are those RGB DeepCool fans.
It might be due to misaligned fins that only slightly touch the outer shell of the fan, or one could be bent. I found some cases where fins became warped from heat because they were not properly maintained in the warehouse.
