The setup includes a Windows 10 system with an ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming motherboard, an i7-9700k processor, an RTX 2070 GPU, and a 650w EVGA SuperNOVA power supply. The RAM is a G.SKILL TridentZ RGB series package, 16GB total across two 8GB modules using 288-pin DDR4. The PC is likely a couple of years old.
Recently, I encountered persistent problems with certain games. Around two months ago, playing Resident Evil 2 Remake on Steam caused my game to freeze repeatedly—lasting a second before and after resuming. This disrupted all input during the session, leading to several losses. I attempted numerous solutions: adjusting Nvidia settings for the game, setting refresh rates to 60Hz, forcing the monitor to match, and more. Still, the issue recurs months later, even after changes. It now appears to occur only with specific titles, sometimes after a few minutes or hours, and not consistently.
Other games like Final Fantasy XIV, Heroes of the Storm, and Final Fantasy VII do not trigger this behavior. I've tested everything from changing settings to updating drivers, but nothing resolves the problem. I’ve also tried disconnecting third-party apps, closing Steam, and switching displays. The issue seems tied to particular games and fluctuating timing. I’m seeking advice from others who might have encountered similar challenges.
I attempted to adjust the hardware scheduling for On, but it still occurs. I'm not fully prepared to completely reset Windows 10 just yet, but I haven't ruled it out. What's unusual is that my internet connection dropped yesterday, and during that time I played a game for an hour and a half without any freezing. Does this seem like a coincidence?
