I purchased a Brother MFC-L2710DW printer/fax/scanner recently. It came with a brand new cord from the box. The machine is functioning properly, but it displays a dial tone. However, the fax function isn’t working. I’m using Verizon service and have no phone or answering machine connected to the fax unit. The device is plugged directly into the wall. Testing with a working phone shows it works, yet when a fax is sent, the machine rings once and shows "Receiving," but no fax arrives. Could anyone help identify the issue? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Typically you can't send T.30 faxes through a VoIP line; it works best with traditional POTS. I can send faxes using Comcast voice, which uses the T.38 protocol.

It is a Verizon DSL connection. After thorough troubleshooting with Brother, the issue was resolved. Verizon identified an error in their Call Forwarding order for another customer. This caused incoming faxes to be sent to an unfamiliar business line. Once the forwarding was removed, the fax function was restored.
