Question Bios Green Flashing Among other issues
Question Bios Green Flashing Among other issues
Good afternoon,
Intro
Lately I've been assisting my brother with his computer. It has been experiencing problems since it was assembled, and even though I've built numerous computers and servers in the past, I'm finding it quite challenging to resolve these issues.
Problems
The initial problem we encountered was with the RAM. Initially, the system would only function properly when there was a single RAM module installed in one socket. Following ASUS guidelines, using two in two sockets would trigger an orange light. The remedy was to return the device and obtain a fresh set of RAM and power cables – it resolved the issue (hoping this was the final time I saw that warning light).
Later, we began noticing recurring BSODs and power cuts while playing demanding games. These crashes occurred unexpectedly, and although I've dealt with similar errors before, the solution in my case was replacing the power supply. However, there were still instances where the PC wouldn't boot at all. The fix involved turning off the power switch, ensuring everything was fully powered down before attempting to restart.
After installing a new power supply, the situation improved slightly. But then the PC would fail to start after about five seconds of power being applied. We had to manually turn it on by pressing the power button at the front of the case.
Once we disassembled and rebuilt the system, the problem persisted. The BIOS displayed a continuous green flash – a known issue that hasn't resolved itself even after further attempts. We even attempted to install the latest BIOS update via USB, but the light remained on.
Our goal is now to access the BIOS to explore potential fixes. The current challenge is the recurring orange RAM warning light. This has reappeared during today's rebuild, and we're unable to boot into the BIOS.
What We've Attempted
- Swapped out the power supply for shutdown issues
- Tried shorting the CLRTC pin
- Removed the 3V battery for ten minutes before reinstalling
- Tested RAM in all sockets with different modules
- Reset CMOS by spinning the reset button (ASUS B650-A)
- Left RAM in slots for 10–15 minutes at a time
Summary
Apologies if this is too much to take in, but I'm attempting to provide a complete overview of the situation. I'm new to Tom'sHardware and was advised by a friend to try these steps. I'm open to any guidance that could help clarify what needs to be done. If anyone has additional context, please let me know – I'll do my best to assist further.

Short update on this - While typing, the light went out but the device started up normally. When I tried again, it returned to its previous state. The USB was left in, so we'll keep it and check later once it's removed. I'll post an update after seeing the outcome, as someone might need contact for deletion.
