Question Best Stabilizer Manufacturer ?
Most commercial switched mode power supplies used in IT equipment for home or office settings display a voltage range of 100 to 240V AC. In the UK, the standard mains voltage is set at 230V AC 50Hz, while the Ofgen permissible limits span from 216V to 253V. Currently, I measure 246V in the countryside, and I’ve encountered 256V before adjustments were made to the transformer tap near my location.
Previously this year, during a stay at a foreign hotel, the mains fluctuated between 85V and 218V. To prevent potential over-current damage, I disconnected my laptop charger when the voltage fell below 90V. In another instance, years ago, the local power supply disappeared due to load shedding, and shortly after, the hotel diesel generator started up. Within seconds, all lighting fixtures in the room ignited in a burst of sparks. After measuring the room voltage at 300V AC, I informed the staff to lower it to 240V.
Voltage regulators are widely used across many regions to manage significant variations in mains voltage. These devices handle prolonged changes rather than brief spikes lasting only microseconds. In large hotels, each room is equipped with a substantial regulator—around 20kg (44lb)—to safeguard the wall-mounted air conditioning unit. While a UPS isn’t necessary for protecting an air conditioning unit, it’s essential to counteract the impact of large voltage swings on the compressor.
A highly reliable UPS would be suitable for managing voltage fluctuations well below 100V and above 260V, which is outside the typical range of commercial units. Combining a broad-range AVR with a UPS could be a viable solution in Sri Lanka. I would recommend consulting a local engineer for further guidance.
