I'm planning an upgrade for a family member's old system, aiming for a budget between £350 and £400. I need to consider:
- CPU
- RAM
- Motherboard
- GPU
- Power supply

I was thinking of starting with a Ryzen 5 5600 and a b550 board if it fits. For the GPU, I'm unsure what's best within this range—maybe an RX 6600? (Actually, I don't have clear guidance on the best price-performance or potential bottlenecks.) I'm open to buying a used GPU if necessary. The system is expected to run 1080p games initially and possibly 1440p later. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your concept of a 5600, b550 and 6600 offers a solid starting point.
Currently the 5600x is just a few pounds more than the 5600 model, making it a worthwhile purchase.
This board here provides a great value. You might save around 20 pounds with a more affordable a520, but that doesn’t seem worth the trade-off.
I suggest aiming for a 32gb RAM if possible, though you could purchase 16 now and still leave room for future upgrades.
There’s a solid 6600 available along with a suitable power solution.
