Question ASUS GTX 1050 TI 4GB Card and DVI to DSub Conversion...
I purchased the card second hand, and it has been performing well for my kids (under 11 years old) over the past week. Prior to this card, the machine was using two 19-inch old flat monitors (from E-Recycle - outdated) connected via Asus Motherboard (HDMI, DSUB15). The GTX 1050TI card features a DVI 24 +1 connection, a display port, and an HDMI port. The HDMI monitor is powered through the HDMI port. I attempted to convert it to a DSUB15.
I tried connecting a DVI to Dsub 15, but ended up with four extra pins since the image didn’t match what was listed on Amazon (returning the item). In the meantime, I acquired a Display Port to DSub15 adapter, which connected correctly. The monitor appears to be receiving a signal, as it shows a change in color (grey/black), but it’s not displaying properly in Linux (Ubuntu 24.04) or Windows 10 (same screen issue). After letting it sit for five minutes, I unexpectedly got a display on Windows, but it disappeared upon reboot.
I’m uncertain whether the problem lies with the card or the adapter.
It seems like what I’m trying—Display Port to DSUB15—is not uncommon. Another possibility is using a much newer monitor with the correct port connectors and seeing if the card can still display properly on the Display port. If that works, I’d test swapping monitors or finding another adapter.

You might have noticed that not every DVI/VGA adapter performs the same. Various DVI ports exist, and only certain ones transmit an analog signal. For those lacking this capability, an active adapter is necessary to convert the DVI output into an analog format compatible with VGA displays.

When examining those vintage VGA screens, it's important to check that the refresh rate is adjusted to a maximum of 60Hz.
Refers to Windows version 59.97Hz.
Tried an older E-Recycle Monitor, HP model, but it didn’t cause any issues.
Interesting fact about the monitor is that none of its buttons are working properly—power is functioning, but likely one of the remaining four buttons is needed for something like a menu.
It might be simpler to get another monitor instead.
I usually buy these myself and have a 19-inch Samsung that could work as a replacement.
