Evening,
This is my first time on the forum, so I hope this message makes sense.
I recently purchased a pre-built Scan 3XS gaming system that was advertised as having the top processor.
I spent £2.2k just for the CS2 rig to experience maximum discomfort. The issue is more about lag than ping or internet speed, which you usually think of when talking about lag.
The most annoying part is that occasionally it runs perfectly smooth – exactly how the game should feel without any changes.
BIOS - EXPO 1 Enabled, PBO has little impact.
I’m not sure what to do except return the system since it feels like a waste of money.
I’ve tried most standard fixes – Process Lasso, Launch options, but I have no idea what else to try. Any suggestions?

What games are being played? Source?
Which PSU is connected?
Disk drive(s): specifications, make, model, capacity, current usage?
= = = =
Run Task Manager and Resource Monitor to check system performance. These tools come built in Windows.
Use both at once but only one at a time. Make sure you’re logged in as an administrator.
Launch the respective window and keep it open.
Observe how resources are allocated and what is consuming them.
Notice shifts in performance, particularly when lag appears. Move between tabs or views if needed—such as Task Manager > Performance > CPU, Memory, Disk (etc.).
Monitor the graphs if available; visual changes can be clear in some situations.
It might require some experimentation to understand what’s happening. Be systematic, take notes, and avoid hasty judgments.
Explore further if you need more insight.

Thanks for your reply Ralston, it's appreciated. The game is Counter-Strike 2. My PC is only 8 days old and I can only install CS2 and Discord, so I can't imagine it's connected to the 1TB drive. The PSU is a Corsair 750e. I'm not very familiar with Resource Monitor and I usually check Task Manager, but I haven't been able to see the usage in-game. By the time I've switched tabs, the usage has dropped so much that it doesn't provide a clear reading. Does this make sense?

The motherboard runs on a specific BIOS version. It's recommended to update the BIOS for optimal performance. This CPU 9800X3D is from AMD and represents the newest model. As a top-tier system, it should comfortably support most AAA titles, particularly when paired with an RTX 4080 Super Graphics card, without any lag or stuttering. You can access the Windows Resource Monitor by opening Windows Tools and then selecting Performance Monitor; you'll find a link to open it.

Even when running at default configurations, your rig should consume Counter-Strike 2 at its highest capacity. Consider employing HWiNFO64, a free tool that displays detailed hardware performance metrics.
