Hello everyone.
I own two Lenovo Legion 5 laptops equipped with RTX2060 graphics cards. They’re mainly used by my kids and serve as backup desktops due to their short battery life. I’ve set them to use the built-in graphics while on battery, but even then, browsing doesn’t last more than a few hours.

I’m now searching for a laptop myself: something lighter and more portable, suitable for daily use at work. I’ve noticed the new Ryzen 6800u processors offer low power consumption and an integrated Radeon 680M graphics card. According to what I’ve read, these can handle most games at low resolutions.

There’s also the possibility of getting discrete graphics options, mostly from Nvidia (like in the latest Lenovo Yoga and Ideapads 7th generation models). However, my priority is achieving a longer battery life.

I have a few questions:
- How much battery can an idle discrete graphics processor consume?
- Are there any comparisons between similar models with and without dedicated graphics?
- Will the integrated RX 680 graphics be sufficient for casual games like CIV6, Humankind, Cities Skylines, or Skyrim? Might I face performance issues then?

Thanks for your help.

Unless a discrete GPU is being used, the device powers down. The four laptops I've owned previously all included a discrete GPU and provided at least 7 to 8 hours of battery life.
Finding laptop models with and without a GPU is uncommon. The only option that comes to mind is one of Dell's premium Inspiron series. Even then, locating a reviewer who tested both versions is challenging, since companies typically send one version for evaluation.
The 680M offers satisfactory performance at 1080p medium settings in most games:
