Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with overclocking my 9700k. I've been using it daily since 2018 on a MSI Z390 Tomahawk motherboard. My main concern is the MOSFET temperature recorded during a Prime95 Small FFts test. The chip runs at 5GHz and 1,355V, with all other settings in auto mode. The temperatures reached up to 101°C under load, but they stayed within safe limits and didn't exceed any thresholds. The VRMs are actively cooled by a 120mm fan placed in front of the heatsinks. I'm curious if these readings are typical or acceptable for MOSFETs and VRMs. I intend to keep running this overclock daily since my CPU operates smoothly without thermal throttling, staying around 87°C during the benchmark. VRM parts can handle up to 115°C, which means around 100°C is acceptable in Prime95 under the worst conditions. This kind of setting isn’t typical for the latest equipment; most recent boards use X570/Z590 and newer models feature VRMs that are excessively big and stay very cool even on lower-end units. However, older Z390 boards did experience significant heating, so it’s normal for many to get quite warm.
