Question about the space snow
Question about the space snow
This concerns the snow-like particles that pass by the ship in space. An example is at 41:38 in this video—I notice the effect makes the emptiness seem less pronounced. I believe it appears in FreeSpace 2, X-2, or another game I've played. However, it looks overly dense and too solid, making it hard to interpret as something realistic. It resembles tiny stars flying very close to the ship. Can this feature be disabled in Star Citizen’s settings (since I’ve contributed to the Kickstarter campaign but haven’t fully installed it)? Also, is there an option for transparency or color customization? I think a different color besides white would help, along with lowering the number of particles and reducing transparency significantly—this would greatly improve the visual quality.
We currently lack those visual customization features. However, we're confident Star Citizen will introduce a comprehensive graphics menu in the future, beyond just Nvidia-related options.
It appeared in nearly every space simulation I've ever played. It helps convey motion and lets you sense speed without constantly looking at your HUD. The initial alpha versions of AC lacked this feature, making it feel confusing. You might think realism is essential, but it often feels unappealing. A genuinely realistic space game would be dull and unlikely to attract players, even astronauts. Space dust will only add to the challenges.
the cosmic dust is now much less noticeable compared to earlier, and it actually exists in real life too—though probably not as much as before. CIG adjusts the quantity based on location and patch. I chose 2.6 because it changes depending on where you are. The broken moon has a lot of clouds plus dust, which is something I didn’t realize until you mentioned it. The other map shows lava ash, while the PU has very little white dust against the black space, especially when heading toward Crusader (as shown). As Corwin mentioned, it’s essential for flying.
