Hi!
I’m evaluating a mid-range gaming laptop and the Legion Slim 5 QHD 165HZ 4060 seems like a solid choice, especially since I can often find it at a discount.
But connecting it to a monitor adds some complexity to my decision.
The 4060 at 1440P probably won’t perform well with the latest high-end games and may not reach the required 165HZ / FPS for optimal performance. The VRAM limitation is also a minor concern for me.
Running games at 1080P on a 1440P display isn’t ideal, and I’m unsure if there are any settings or software I can adjust to reduce quality loss.
Could a standard 24-27-inch 1080P 165HZ monitor work with this QHD 16:10 setup? Are there any noticeable issues or quality drops to watch for? Any tips or configurations would be greatly appreciated!
Best regards
Steve

I own an Acer XB270HU with 1440p and 1080p performance in games is satisfactory. The 1440p display isn't overly demanding, and you can skip antialiasing (it's not essential at 1440p) or other visual tweaks to boost FPS. Stick to the standard 16/9 aspect ratio, which is widely used. LG produces excellent monitors, and even Samsung is using their panels. A screen capable of 165Hz on HDMI 2.1 allows for VRR (GSYNC) or DisplayPort support if your laptop has a USB-C video port.

Hey there, thanks for the feedback!
This is pretty cool... Your monitor is an older model but it still works well. I noticed some YouTube videos comparing 1080P on a 1440P screen versus a real 1080P display, though I’m not sure about the exact differences. Any suggestions for newer models? The 165Hz QHD monitors seem to be trending right now.

I've used that display for several years and really enjoy it. If I were to purchase it today, I'd consider the LG UltraGear range. Check out Rtings for a detailed review.
