According to my understanding, the Intel CPU connects directly to the PCIe slots. This suggests that if the CPU were non-functional, the PCIe slots might not operate properly.

Thank you for reaching out. I’m glad to assist. For the Evga X58 Mobo with your I7920, the correct mounting pressure is typically indicated by the screws on the board—just follow the manufacturer’s guidelines. Regarding the issue you described, when turning it on, the lights activate but no graphics or fan noise comes through. You mentioned suspecting faulty PCIe slots, but the CPU heatsink isn’t heating up. The fact that a Wi-Fi card warms up suggests power is reaching it. I’d recommend checking each PCIe slot individually and ensuring proper connections. If none respond, consider testing with a different USB port or consulting Evga’s support for further diagnosis.

Your problem seems similar to a common no-post situation. To fix it, clear all unnecessary components so your computer can start. Verify that power cables for the motherboard and graphics card are securely connected and match the correct types (GPU should have PCIE power, motherboard 4/8 pin cable should be ATX12V or EPS). Disconnect all extra USB devices except the keyboard. Keep only one RAM stick unless you test in different slots. Unplug any unused hardware, PCIe cards (except graphics), and SATA connections. Take out the CPU and check the pins inside the socket for any damage or misalignment. If everything appears fine, reinstall the CPU and install the cooler. Take out the graphics card and confirm nothing is loose in the PCIe slot. Once done, it should get you going—others can help later if needed.

I did this initially after the board passed inspection. Everything looked good—no bent pins, two RAM sticks installed in their slots, and the 8-pin connector was properly connected. Now I’m trying to troubleshoot because I suspect the CPU might be dead or the mounting pressure could be off.

Yes, you can check the graphics card compatibility by running diagnostic tools or using system utilities on another machine.

Defeating a CPU proves challenging. I’d likely start with the motherboard or RAM first.

The memory would likely make the system repeatedly start and stop throughout operation.

I'm not sure how to proceed. I'm feeling really confused right now.
