Question about Steam games
Question about Steam games
I recently reinstalled Steam after updating Windows 8.1 and I’m not very familiar with it. It’s been more than six months since I last played. I just need guidance on installing a game from the files I copied to an external hard drive without having to re-download everything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! It appears to be either a backup or a saved folder containing the games.
I dont believe that it is a backup ! i think it is the game installation files I took out from the directory itself in the old days ! i think its the type of files that are stored in origin games which arent installed files but the downloaded ones which when copied over start to get installed in the ORIGIN client.
Steam operates differently here. It doesn’t use installers or downloads; it installs everything directly from the full directory. If you simply transferred the entire folder without a backup, you might be able to reinstall Steam by restarting Steam and the app should recognize it again. I haven’t tried this recently, so I’m unsure if it still functions this way.
If you retain your original Steam folder, simply launch steam.exe and it will handle everything. You won't need to reinstall—it runs automatically via a web-based client if the games are updated. When the Linux video mentioned, he carried a portable Steam SSD, which means he didn’t have to re-download all games every time performance issues arose across multiple machines.
Place them in your install games folder. When you press the install button, Steam will identify existing files and fetch any updates automatically. Ensure the folder is already configured as a Steam directory; otherwise, relocate your files there unless it’s the default location.
