Question about SATA and Molex connections in semi-modular power supplies
Question about SATA and Molex connections in semi-modular power supplies
This is a very basic question, but I just want to make sure I don't mess up.
I have a PC I've been working on for some time. I finally got around to making some corrections to it, (had to remove motherboard to correct issues with I/o shield).
On the Antec NE 550 Gold semi modular PSU it has Molex/SATA and brackets around (3) 6 pin ports, and 1 single pci-e.
I want to make sure that the Molex/SATA 6 pin ports are all the same. I have the SSD HD plugged into the port that has SATA directly below it, and the other cable to the DVD plugged into one of the others, (of course not the pci-e). I realize that both cables that came with the PSU have both SATA and Molex connections so I'm quite certain it's good to go, but with modular PSU's I get a bit nervous due to a past bad experience.
Thanks
Is this your unit? The specifications are available here: https://www.antec.com/product/power/neo-...lar-550-v2. If applicable, the color coding for PCI-E and SATA/MOLEX ports is consistent. All four PCI-E ports on the PSU function identically, and the same applies to all four SATA/MOLEX ports—cables can be connected without concern about port orientation. Minor visual differences may occur depending on where you plug in the cables. For instance, with my PSU, I’ve arranged the connections so empty ports remain hidden, giving a cleaner appearance. This setup also works well for my Skylake build, which uses the full specifications (more images attached). Always use the original cables from the PSU and avoid swapping between different PSUs due to varying pinouts.
The PSU in my current setup is the Antec NE550 Gold, but it doesn't have color-coded connectors.
I actually own the exact Seasonic Prime Ultra titanium PSU you mentioned.
I haven't connected a graphics card yet, but I'm assuming all (4) 8-pin and all (4) 6-pin connections on the PSU are identical.
Just wanted to confirm.
Great Skylake build!
Would you like to attach its official specifications? I checked a bit more and found the NE550 ZEN, but it’s fully wired. PRIME Ultra is SSR-650TR. What I have is SSR-650TD (the predecessor of Ultra). I also have PRIME Ultra running my wife's PC (Haswell). They’re all identical. It doesn’t matter which PCI-E/EPS or SATA/MOLEX port you use on the PSU. Thanks. That’s the outcome of dedication and love.
By the way, my other two builds follow a similar approach. Details and pictures are in my profile.
