They can still function even if they're a bit off. If you plan to push them beyond overclocking, expect limited results—mismatches usually don’t perform well at speeds like 3200 or 3600, so it should be okay. However, if you don’t need the full 48GB, selling your current setup for something smaller like 32GB RAM could be a good option.
